  • The cost of developing a product can vary greatly depending on a number of factors. These factors include the complexity of the product, the materials and manufacturing processes needed, the amount of research and development required, and experience of the development team.

Additionally, there may be other costs associated with marketing and advertising the product, as well as intellectual property (e.g. patent, design registration, trademark) fees and legal expenses.

Development of a simple product like a plastic tray may cost a few thousand pounds, whilst a consumer electronic product may cost a few tens of thousands. A complex medical device could cost hundreds of thousands.

  • Developing products is not an inexpensive process. There are a variety of options when it comes to obtaining the funds needed to bring your ideas to life.

You could fund it yourself - We do not advise remortgaging your home to fund developing your product.

One option is to explore small business grants or loans that are specifically geared towards supporting entrepreneurs and new product development.

Another option is to consider crowdfunding platforms, where individuals can contribute small amounts of money towards your project in exchange for early access or other rewards.

Additionally, you can seek out venture capital or angel investors who specialise in funding innovative projects. These investors are often on the lookout for exciting new ideas with the potential for high returns.

Finally, if your product is highly promising and has a strong market potential, you can consider presenting your idea to potential strategic partners or corporate sponsors who may be interested in investing.

We offer help to our clients by signposting and supporting them to access funding such as various grants for product development and prototyping.

  • One of the main concerns for anyone with a product idea is, how to protect your product idea. Firstly, it is crucial to keep your idea confidential. Limit discussions about your idea to trusted individuals who have signed Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA).
